Malaysia Largest NZ Visitor Increase for March 2017

According to the latest stats from StatsNZ, the largest increase in visitor arrivals to New Zealand were from Malaysia, with a recorded 33.9 percent more visitors in 2017, than March 2016.

While the country is a smaller contributor to visitor arrivals than the likes of Australia, China and the USA, the 2016 launch of Kuala Lumpur-Auckland routes with Air Asia continue to contribute to strong arrival growth.

A 17.3 percent increase in arrivals from the USA was also recorded, however Tourism New Zealand stated that growth in the shoulder seasons (March-April) in this market is largely due to increases in Cruise visitors and so increases in this sector are unlikely to convert into guest nights for commercial accommodation providers.
