Hosting hikers…

With a network of 19 short walks and day hikes in New Zealand now being promoted to the world, is your hotel in a position to be hosting hikers?

Tourism New Zealand and the Department of Conservation teamed up late last year to deliver the project with the aim of delivering a great visitor experience and spread the benefits of tourism across the country.

“The walks are located across New Zealand and this really supports our strategy to encourage people into the regions and spread the many benefits that tourism delivers.”

“It’s fantastic to see that consumer feedback from both international visitors and Kiwis was a key input into the walk selection – this helps deliver an experience that we know New Zealanders and our international visitors are looking for and will enjoy,” said Stephen England-Hall, chief executive tourism New Zealand.

“The research showed that New Zealand is known for amazing walking experiences and that people want to experience a wider range of these, particularly shorter style walks.”

“The network of short walks and day hikes compliments the existing great walks network and offers people who might not have time or the fitness level another fantastic option to enjoy New Zealand’s unique natural environment.”

The start of the domestic and international marketing campaign for the walks is being marked with an event organised by the Department of Conservation on Rangitoto Island – one of the 19 selected walks.

Tourism New Zealand’s International marketing includes content on New Zealand’s tourism website, including a new suite of images and a video showcasing some of the walks.
