The New Zealand government has launched a free online ‘matchmaking’ service designed to bring together employers with job seekers who are looking for seasonal work.
The ‘Work the Seasons’ platform lists around 5000 jobs available, with anyone aged over 15 years who is currently eligible to work in New Zealand able to register as a job seeker.
Tourism and hospitality are among six industries represented on the website, with information on relevant courses and blogs as well as a community bulletin board providing updates and latest information.
Employers can advertise seasonal roles on worktheseasons.co.nz for free, and using the platform’s functionality can filter through the applicants to find the best candidates.
The site provides tips for jobseekers which including some universal truths about seasonal work, including: “Be flexible. Seasonal work typically occurs when full-time staff are unavailable meaning the hours and times can be different to a standard job. The more flexible you are the easier it will be to find work.”
Another states: “Treat it like a full-time job. Seasonal work can lead to great opportunities down the line so be sure to display a positive attitude and a strong work ethic.”
Advice is not limited to employees, though.
The site provides an overview of the legal rights and responsibilities applying to employers and employees as a counter to poor employer practice, and advises employees how to deal with any mistreatment they may encounter.
